If you take a random number, the odds are 1 in 9 that the first digit of the number is 1, right? Since it could be any of 1, 2, 3, ..., 9, and since it's random, they each have an equal chance. Right?
Wrong.
Benford's Law says that the odds are 30% (nearly 1 in 3) that the first digit is 1.
Awesomely weird.
